ISSF/NRA Pistol Shooting

Standard Pistol

The standard pistol match is shot with a regular sport pistol (usually semi-auto) chambered for .22 long rifle. All shooting is done one-handed and unsupported.  All strings are shot in 5-shot series.

Slow fire – four strings of 5 shots (150 seconds/string)
Shooter is allowed to rest the firearm between shots.
20 shots, maximum score of 200.

Timed fire – four strings of 5 shots (20 seconds/string)
Shooter must start each string with firearm at a 45 degree downward angle.
20 shots, maximum score of 200.

Rapid fire – four strings of 5 shots (10 seconds/string)
Shooter must start each string with firearm at a 45 degree downward angle.
20 shots, maximum score of 200.

Total match score out of a possible 600.

Centre-fire Pistol

The centre-fire pistol match is shot with a pistol chambered in a centre-fire calibre between 7.62 mm (30 cal) and 9.65 mm (38 cal). While semi-auto handguns are more common, revolvers shooters are not at much of a disadvantage.  All shooting is done one-handed and unsupported.  All strings are shot in 5-shot series.

Slow fire – six strings of 5 shots (300 seconds/string)
Shooter is allowed to rest the firearm between shots.
30 shots, maximum score of 300.

Rapid fire – six strings of 5 shots (3 seconds “show”/7 seconds “edge”)
On cue, the shooter has 3 seconds to raise the gun from a 45 degree downward angle and fire.  Over the next seven seconds, the shooter returns to the ready position.
Firearm can not be rested between shots.
30 shots, maximum score of 300.

Total match score out of a possible 600.

NRA “Bullseye” .45 Pistol (“Canadian 600”)

The standard pistol match is shot with a 45 calibre centre-fire pistol (usually semi-auto).  All shooting is done one-handed and unsupported.

Slow fire – two strings of 10 shots (600 seconds/string)
Shooter may start with the gun up and safely pointing downrange.  Shooter is allowed to rest the firearm between shots.
20 shots, maximum score of 200.

Timed fire – four strings of 5 shots (20 seconds/string)
Shooter may start with the gun up and safely pointing downrange.
20 shots, maximum score of 200.

Rapid fire – four strings of 5 shots (10 seconds/string)
Shooter may start with the gun up and safely pointing downrange.
20 shots, maximum score of 200.

Total match score out of a possible 600.
